Street Children: abandoned childhood
In Calcutta over 100.000 children survive working in the streets, as victims of abuses and exploitation. Street children are deprived of any kind of school education and are deprived of the chance to face life with dignity and improve their future.
CINI has implemented a programme for these children, which Fondazione Blu has committed to continuously support
- The children are hosted in CINI centres, where the operators check their identity and their family status
- A new identity is provided to those who do not have one, in order to protect them from further abuses on the streets
- Those who do not have a family or who do not want to re-establish contact with their families due to abuse, are sheltered in a family-house
- The children follow an intensive preparatory course of six months, to be accepted and re-integrated into school classes
- The operators of CINI help the children to re-integrate and cope with the difficulties of school life, providing close support for the first two years
- The family give up the small income brought in by their children’s work, but are assisted with small contributions
